Name: Toni Hamel

Where do you live: Madisonville, LA

Current auctions: Toni Hamel

1. When did you get started sewing and creating? Who taught you?

October 2003, I taught myself by reading books and just drawing patterns out and going for it! I am a crafty person by nature and it totally came naturally. And I also had the help of some wonderful ladies that I met in my first eBay design group.

2. When did you start selling your designs on eBay? Do you sell anywhere else besides eBay, if so where? (example, web site, local boutique) What did you do before eBay?

I started selling my jewelry designs on eBay in 2002 and decided to start sewing in 2003. I used to sell my jewelry on my website, to local boutiques, dance studios, and upscale salons as well, but have since stopped that. I am having a professional redo my website to showcase my work there and possibly sell. Before eBay I was a Payroll and Human Resources Manager for six local radio stations.

2a. Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay. Do you have a picture? What was it and what did it sell for?

It was a Minnie Mouse tee dress and it was hideous! LOL! I don't have a picture and if I did, that would be one of the funniest things I have ever seen! Heheā€¦ It sold for $20 though!

3. How did you decide upon your name?

It's my name. Toni Hamel.

4. Do you belong to any boutique group and if so which one? How did you get started in that group? What do you like most about your particular group?

I am the leader of Mon Petit Bebe Boutique or MPB Boutique for short. I created it with a bunch of some awesome ladies who are super supportive, talented, funny, friendly, and just overall amazing women. I love the fact that we work together as a group and not one person running the show. Everyone has a say, we have fun contests, we lift each other up when someone is down, we talk about everything under the sun and it's just overall a fabulous group to be in.

5. What is your favorite thing to create? (example: vintage style dresses, totes, overalls, etc) Why?

I like to make sets that are funky and trendy but girly at the same time. I prefer my daughter to look like a little girl but keep up with the fashions of today. So I would say trendy but tasteful.

6. What are your favorite types of fabrics or fabric designers?

I LOVE DENIM!!! And I love Michael Miller, Kaffe Fasset, Alexander Henry, Amy Butler, Moda

7. Where and when do you do most of your sewing? Are you neat about it or do you have fabric covering the floor!

Hmmmm, when I am working, I usually have all the fabrics I am working with all over my cutting table then when I am done, I pick it all up and fold it neatly. I have to have it all neat before I can come up with a new idea. I sew whenever I can. Mostly when Sophia is taking a nap or at night when she goes to bed. Also on the weekends when my DH is home.

8. What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

Acting like a goofball with my baby girl, Making people laugh, Beading, Crocheting & Knitting (two new things I just HAD to try!), Chatting, Anything to do with computers. .
